Short & Sweet

Pithy = good

This camera bag rocks

I have been struggling with what to do for a camera bag. My trusty Timbuk2 bag, which has zero padding at all, is a dirty mess and just doesn't cut it for my equipment. I bought a Crumpler a few years ago and it's just too big and bulky. I despise all of the standard-issue bags. Dull. Boring. Yawn. I just happened to come across Tracy Joy bags today and I'm totally in love. Ordered one on the spot. Wheee!

I'm a big fan of "stuff" shops. Stores that sell artwork, home decor and pretty things that I may not need but certainly do covet. This one's in Eastown, and I snapped a few pics of it during our photowalk last night.

If I could marry this website, I would

I think I need the "whistle while you work" version for my office. It's just calling my name.

Wonderful Graffiti

Fork love

I was pleasantly surprised to find out just how much my new company is committed to the environment. My first day dining in the cafeteria I came across these utensils. Completely biodegradable. My guilt about throwing away plasticware is over. The cups and many plates are also compostable. Tres cool!

Every weekend should...

...include casual footwear, a splash in the lake, and plenty of snail shells to collect.

Cabernet on a summer day

Each of the last four summers we've made a trip to the Detroit area to visit some friends and kick back. There's always wine, there's usually some of Bridgette's awesome bruschetta, there are hours of fun-filled kid antics, and there's the promise of warm, wonderful conversations. Bliss.

Even tastier than I imagined

I had no decent food props for the Palazzolo's tiramisu gelato I bought tonight. (Plus, I had to rush around and eat it before my son comes upstairs and nabs me with dessert. He would not be pleased to be missing out.) I've been dying to try it and I'm sorry I waited. If you have any of this stuff in your near vicinity, I highly recommend it. Homemade goodness.

Summer has its upsides

One upside has been this year's weather. I typically have a love-hate relationship with this season based solely on heat and humidity. That duo just does me in. I'm not a hot-weather gal at all. Sure, last week we had to crank up the air conditioner, but overall it's been a pretty pleasant season here in Michigan. The other upside is, as always, the fresh berries. I could seriously eat a bowl five times this size. Love, love, love berries!

One last leisurely lunch

I won't have many more opportunities to fix up a fresh lunch on a weekday afternoon. I start a full-time job on Monday. Bye-bye, freelance! I'll miss the flexibility and the variety and, most definitely, my Fridays with my son. I won't miss invoicing (and clients who pay so late), paying quarterly taxes, the lack of collaboration that I often face, and the feeling that I have no control over my free time since I pretty much have to jump when someone needs something. I almost feel like I'll have more time with Dev now since I'll no longer have to work weekends or evenings. So that time will be locked in as family time. Happy, happy, joy, joy!

Cultivating

I love my garden. Yet when August rolls around, some of the zing goes out of it for me. Even with my nurturing, some of my containers begin to fade. They lose their bold sparkle. Blooms drop from my perennials as mid-summer color shows give way to the black-eyed susans and the sedum kicks into gear. Right now I'm most thankful for the zinnias and cosmos that Dev and I planted from seed in a couple of the containers. They've taken the starring role on the deck with their bright, joyous colors.
